The Kentucky rifle team will welcome Morehead State and Murray State to Buell Armory and Barker Hall for the first-ever Kentucky Long Rifle match on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. ET.
The match will celebrate the sport at the collegiate level within the Commonwealth, which is the only state in America with three collegiate teams.
The match will utilize a unique format aggregating the scores from all eight shooters, instead of the five designated squad members for smallbore and air rifle commonly used within NCAA competition. The scores from the five squad designees will still be recorded from this match for NCAA qualifying purposes.
The winning team will be awarded the “Kentucky Long Rifle” trophy, which has been hand engraved to honor all the teams involved.
All three teams were ranked in the preseason top-20 with Kentucky and Murray State ranked Nos. 3 and 4 respectively and Morehead coming in a No. 17.
Fans can follow the match with live targets.
Kentucky began the 2018-19 season with a 4686-4635 win at Nebraska last Saturday.
The Wildcats shot 2320 in smallbore and 2366 in air rifle, compared with Nebraska’s 2287 smallbore and 2348 air rifle scores.
Freshman Will Shaner was the top individual shooter with an 1180 aggregate. He won air rifle with a 598, and placed third in smallbore with a 582.
