The Kentucky swimming and diving program will host its first home meet of the season on Tuesday, in a Southeastern Conference dual flaunting Kentucky and LSU.
Kentucky will host only two home meets in the 2018-19 season, with tomorrow’s dual inaugurating the home schedule. Hosted in the Lancaster Aquatic Center, the official start time is set for 4 p.m., while competitors in the women’s 1-meter dive and the men’s 3-meter dive will have an earlier call to the post at 3 p.m.
The home opener will follow a 32-event schedule, with a two 20-minute breaks. Live scoring will be available at http://www.sidearmstats.com/ukentucky/swimming/index.htm.
“This meet is a great opportunity to compete against an SEC school and see if we can perform better than we did in Indiana, as we build toward the rest of the season for March,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “October is breast cancer awareness month and we want to show our support. I’m sure every guy and girl on the team knows someone who has battled with breast cancer, so it is important for all of us to show our support.”
Kentucky will honor breast cancer awareness month in the Tuesday showdown. Along with free admission, spectators will receive a raffle ticket upon entry for a chance to win a Nike Kentucky swimming and diving t-shirt each time the Wildcats finish an event in first.
Parking for spectators will be available in parking structure No. 7 located on Sports Center Drive, across from the E.J. Nutter Training Facility. The cost of parking is $2 an hour.
Both Kentucky squads have built momentum in the short season ahead of Tuesday’s dual meet. In the CSCAA preseason rankings released Oct. 10, the women’s team earned a No. 14 rank, while the men defeated No. 23 Notre Dame in Kentucky’s season opener in Bloomington, Indiana.
Conference-foe LSU travels to Lexington with a 2-1 record for both the men and women programs.
