The Kentucky swimming and diving program put its talent on display Friday in the first appearance of the 2018-19 season, the annual Sun Shall Shine meet.
Each year, the program inaugurates its season with a Blue-White scrimmage. This year’s schedule-opening affair featured 32 events, advertising each swimmer and diver in the program. While the Wildcats took advantage of the competitive setting that the intrasquad meet offered, it was also the first time family and friends could catch a glimpse at the team.
For the second-straight year the White squad came out on top, while Blue finished not far behind.
“I thought it was a pretty good day for the cats,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “The first meet out I didn’t really know what to expect, we’re still trying to go through some hard training, still trying to get into shape a little bit. I thought some people performed really well and some people performed not so well. So, we’ve got some work to do.
We’re facing against a really, really good Indiana team on Wednesday along with Notre Dame who is really good, and Missouri is obviously a really tough SEC competitor. We’re going to see where we stand on Wednesday, but for the first meet out some good things and some things we really need to work on and clean up, but that’s why you do these early season meets so hopefully we’re good by March whenever it actually matters.”
Kentucky will travel north to Bloomington, Indiana, to compete in its first official meet of the season – a tri-meet headlining Indiana and Notre Dame. While Missouri will also be featured at the meet, the Wildcats and the Tigers will not compete against one-another. Missouri will play host to Kentucky on Nov. 1-2.
