Freshman Tiphanie Fiquet of the Kentucky women’s tennis team will compete in the International Tennis Federation Future 25K in Florence, South Carolina, on Sunday.
Fiquet will begin her trek in the singles qualifying field, where she will face No. 10 seed Hsu Chieh-yu of Taiwan at 10 a.m. on court 17. Competition for the ITF Future 25K will take place at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Florence Tennis Center.
Live scoring will be available at http://live.itftennis.com/en/live-scores/?tourkey=W-WITF-USA-35A-2018.
Sixty-four players from 15 countries will be featured in the qualifier, while only eight athletes will qualify into the singles main draw. Newcomer Fiquet will need to win three matches over three days before advancing.
Included in Fiquet’s qualifying bracket are two seeded opponents, No. 10 Chieh-yu and No. 8 Amanda Rogers of the United States. Seed assignments are based on ITF singles rankings.
The ITF Future 25K will mark Fiquet’s third circuit appearance since becoming a Wildcat. In the fall opener, Fiquet began the ITF Future 15K in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with a spot in the singles main draw where she lost in the second round (6-3, 6-1). Down the road at the ITF Future 25K in Charleston, Fiquet was defeated in the second round of the singles qualifying draw (6-1, 6-2).
