Eastern Kentucky University senior Jayla Johnson was voted the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week for women’s basketball, the league announced on Tuesday.
Johnson was also chosen as the College Sports Madness OVC Player of the Week on Monday.
Johnson averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks-per-game on 48 percent (13-for-37) shooting last week.
The 6-2 forward from Dallas, posted a game-high 18 points, seven rebounds, and two steals in the road win at Chattanooga. Johnson posted 11 of her 18 points in the fourth quarter to hold off the Mocs.
On Monday at Morehead State, Johnson recorded 16 points, five rebounds and two steals.
This is the first time this season Johnson has earned OVC Newcomer of the Week honors.
Johnson and the Colonels return to action today when they take on No. 15 Northwestern at 2 p.m.
