Eastern Kentucky University’s Tre King has been voted the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, while Curt Lewis has been voted the Co-Freshman of the Week for men’s basketball, the league announced on Monday.
King was an absolute force last week, averaging a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds-per-game. He also averaged a team-best 3 steals-per-game.
The 6-9 forward posted career highs in points (25), rebounds (13) and three-pointers (three) in the near-upset of Xavier on Monday night in Cincinnati. He beat the buzzer with a step-back three at the end of regulation to tie it and force overtime. King also came up with four steals versus the Musketeers.
Two days later, King went for 17 points and seven rebounds in a convincing 95-78 road win at USC Upstate.
The Lexington, Kentucky native shot 52 percent from the field, 50 percent from three-point range and 83 percent from the stripe for the week.
This is King’s first-career OVC Player of the Week honor. He was voted second team All-OVC last season after averaging 11.3 points and 5.1 rebounds-per-game.
King currently ranks fourth in the OVC in scoring (18.0 points-per-game) and third in rebounding (9.5 rebounds-per-game).
Lewis averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists-per-game last week. The 6-5 guard was magnificent in the overtime loss at Xavier on Monday, pouring in a career-high 20 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, three steals and a block.
He also contributed in the Colonels’ road win at USC Upstate, tallying seven points, five rebounds and three assists.
The Louisville, Kentucky native is currently averaging 11 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2 steals-per-game.
He shared this week’s honor with Belmont guard Jacobi Wood.
King, Lewis and the Colonels are back in action tonight in the Colonels’ home and OVC opener versus Morehead State at 7 p.m.
