After two games away from home, the Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will return to Baptist Health Arena on Saturday to face Boyce College.
The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will air live on ESPN+. The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.
Saturday will be Healthcare Workers Appreciation Day – Presented by Baptist Health Richmond. Eastern Kentucky is also holding a holiday toy drive at the game. Fans who bring a new toy to donate to the Toys for Tots Toy Drive will receive FREE admission. Items will be donated to local children in need. An additional Toys For Tots Toy Drive date is set for Dec. 17.
INSIDE THE SERIES
– This is the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
– This is the third opponent of the season that EKU is facing for the first time, joining Miami-Middletown and Texas A&M – Commerce.
THE COLONELS
– The Colonels are 4-5 this season after falling at No. 7 Tennessee, 84-49.
– EKU scored the first five points of the game, led by two eight minutes in and held the Volunteers to 24 percent shooting in the first half. UT hit just 5-of-28 from the field (18 percent) to start the game and was held to 8-of-34 shooting in the first half. The Colonels forced 10 turnovers in the first 20 minutes of play.
– Freshman Leland Walker scored a season-high 13 points at Tennessee.
– Michael Moreno has 575 career rebounds. He is now 18th on EKU’s all-time rebounds list and three rebounds behind Charlie Mitchell (1970-73) in 17th with 578.
– Isaiah Cozart leads the ASUN Conference with 1.44 blocks per game.
– Eastern Kentucky leads the conference in blocked shots (4.67/game) and steals (9.67/game) and is second in rebounding (40.67/game).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
– Boyce College is 4-6 this season, which does not include a NCAA Division I 103-49 loss at Tennessee State, an exhibition game for the Bulldogs. Boyce suffered a 78-61 loss at Alice Lloyd on Thursday.
– Brody Madeira, a junior guard/forward, leads the team in scoring (16.4 ppg), rebounding (6.6 rpg) and assists (2.6 apg).
– Madeira scored 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting against Tennessee State on Tuesday.
– As a team, Boyce shot 33 percent from the field and 29 percent from 3-point range against TSU.
– Madeira had 22 points, four assists and two rebounds in the game against Alice Lloyd. Aaron Quinley added 11 points and six rebounds.
