Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team defeated Austin Peay State University 74-59 on Saturday in Clarksville, thanks to a strong finish where they held the Governors scoreless for the final 5:46 and closed the game on a 12-0 run. The Colonels never led in the game, but they were able to turn the tide in their favor by out-rebounding the Govs 40-27 and turning 18 turnovers into a 21-5 edge in points off turnovers.
Devontae Blanton had 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Colonels, while Isaiah Cozart added 12 points, six rebounds and was credited with two blocks. Dardan Kapiti contributed nine points, four rebounds, four assists and one block.
Sean Durugordon led Austin Peay (8-13, 2-6 ASUN) with 17 points. The Governors shot 44 percent from the field and made seven attempts from 3-point range.
The Colonels (13-8, 6-2 ASUN) hit on only 2-of-14 from 3-point range, but they were able to secure the win by out-rebounding the Govs and turning turnovers into points.
The Colonels continue a stretch of three straight road games on Thursday when they travel to Louisville to face in-state rival Bellarmine. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
