🏀 EKU MBB Wins Last 6/7, Hosts 1st Place Stetson Saturday

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team will host first place Stetson University on Saturday, January 14th at 3 p.m. at the Baptist Health Arena. The Colonels, riding a three-game winning streak, are currently tied for second in the ASUN Conference with a 4-1 league record, while Stetson holds a perfect 5-0 record in conference play.

The game will air live on ESPN+ and can also be heard on WCYO 100.7 FM in the Richmond area, or on EKUSports.com worldwide. Additionally, Saturday will be Youth Sports Day at the arena, featuring a halftime run on the court and a post-game autograph session for all youth sports athletes 12 and under, with one free ticket available by clicking here.

In terms of the series history between the two teams, Stetson currently leads 2-0. The first meeting was on December 19th, 1986, with Stetson winning 88-68 at the Hawaiian Tropic Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Hatters also won the last meeting, on January 29th, 2022, by a score of 113-95 in Deland.

Eastern Kentucky, with an overall record of 11-7, has won six of its last seven games, including a 21-point victory over Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday. Freshman Turner Buttry led the Colonels in scoring in that game with 18 points, while the inside duo of Isaiah Cozart and Dardan Kapiti combined for 21 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and two assists in 38 minutes of play. The Colonels lead the ASUN in scoring at 80.67 points per game, and are also at the top of the conference in blocked shots and steals per game.

Stetson, with an overall record of 10-6, also comes into Saturday’s game riding a five-game winning streak, including an 80-51 victory over Bellarmine on Thursday. The sophomore Hoosier duo of Jalen Blackmon and Luke Brown led the team in scoring with 21 and 20 points respectively. As a team, the Hatters are third in the ASUN in scoring at 76.31 points per game and are second in the conference in 3-pointers per game, free throw percentage, 3-point shooting percentage, and field goal percentage.

Saturday’s game promises to be an exciting matchup between two strong teams, with Eastern Kentucky looking to continue their winning streak and potentially take over first place in the ASUN Conference, and Stetson looking to solidify their spot at the top of the standings.
