The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic at Sandals Emerald Bay is currently underway, with four Kentuckians sitting above the projected cut line as the second round came to a close on Monday. The tournament, which is the first event on the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour schedule, will conclude on Wednesday with an increased purse of $1 million on the line. The event is being managed by Lexington-based sports marketing firm bdG Sports, in conjunction with next week’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic in the northern Bahamas.
Leading the pack of Kentuckians is Josh Teater, a Lexington native and Morehead State star, who sits two strokes off the lead after finishing his second round at 6-under par 138. His second-round 4-under 68 was one of the top scores of the day. Teater is behind tournament co-leaders Akshay Bhatia and Shad Sutton, who each posted an 8-under 136 result.
Benton native Patrick Newcomb, who played at Murray State, completed his second round two strokes behind Teater at 4-under 140, following two straight 2-under 70 rounds. Union native and former standout at the University of Cincinnati Austin Squires finished the day with a 36-hole score of even par 144, while Owensboro native and Vanderbilt star John Augenstein wrapped up the day at 1-over 145.
Unfortunately, Scott County standout and Georgetown native Ashton Van Horne will not be making the cut, with a two-day total of 5-over 149. A total of 67 members were listed inside the projected cut line of 1-over 73 when darkness halted play. The tournament is set to be an exciting one, with many Kentuckians in contention for the top prize.
