๐Ÿ€ Kentucky Wildcats WBB Falls to Undefeated #1 South Carolina 95-66

The University of Kentucky womenโ€™s basketball team suffered a 95-66 loss to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks on Jan. 13. With this loss, the Wildcats are now 8-9 overall and 0-5 in the league. On the other hand, the Gamecocks are now 17-0 overall and 5-0 in the league. This game was played in Lexington, where Kentucky leads the series 20-13.

The game started with Kentucky winning the opening tip and Jada Walker scoring the first points of the game for the 7th time this season. However, the Gamecocks quickly took the lead and by the first media timeout, they were leading 18-13. Despite some effort by the Wildcats to come back, they were unable to keep up with the Gamecocks.

Leading scorer Robyn Benton went to the bench early with two fouls, and did not return the rest of the half. Despite this, the Wildcats managed to tie the Gamecocks for more than two minutes in the game and led for more than five minutes.

The Gamecocks dominated the second half, outscoring Kentucky 58-33. They went on a 14-2 run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The Wildcats 66 points against South Carolina, the No. 1 defensive team in the nation, are the second-most points the Gamecocks have allowed all season.

Kyra Elzy, the head coach of the Wildcats, is in her third season and holds a 45-30 overall record. She has a 17-19 overall record in the SEC. The series between Kentucky and South Carolina remains in the Gamecocks favor, with a 38-35 record.

Kentucky will hit the road to face Florida in Gainesville, Florida, on Sunday, Jan. 15 at 3 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. The team will look to bounce back from this loss and improve their record in the league.
