Score! L&N Federal Credit Union, a thriving cooperative financial institution in Louisville, just sealed a landmark naming rights deal with the University of Louisville, renaming Cardinal Stadium to the L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium! Director of Athletics Josh Heird announced this exciting news on Monday, marking a 20-year, $41 million commitment to the university until 2042.
Nestled at the corner of Floyd Street and Central Avenue, the 60,800-seat facility has been a hub of excitement since its opening in 1998 and recent renovations in 2010 and 2019. It’s the proud home of the UofL football program and now bears the L&N name as a symbol of their dedication to the Louisville community and the University.
L&N’s CEO/President, Chris Brown, expressed their excitement, “We are thrilled and honored to partner with the University of Louisville. This long-term commitment cements our relationship and strengthens our ties to the Louisville community. We are proud to have the L&N name on the stadium and align with Josh Heird’s vision.”
Heird couldn’t agree more, “We’re beyond proud to continue our partnership with L&N Federal Credit Union, a respected company with a rich history in Louisville. Their investment in our student-athletes and athletic department aligns with our mission statement and we couldn’t be more grateful. Here’s to enhancing our partnership for many more years to come!”
With over $2 billion in assets and serving over 109,000 members with their personal and business banking needs, L&N Federal Credit Union is a true staple in the Louisville community. It all started in 1954, founded to serve L&N Railroad workers, on the same site where the football stadium now stands. After 90 years of serving the South Louisville Shops employees and their families, the credit union expanded its charter to serve everyone in the Louisville Metropolitan Area. And, in a nod to its roots, the original train horn from the site still sounds every time the Cardinals score a touchdown.
