The University of Louisville men’s tennis team will be hosting a doubleheader this Sunday, playing against No. 24 Northwestern at 12 p.m. followed by Eastern Kentucky at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The event is free to attend.
The Cardinals started off their season with a bang, going 2-0 in their season-opening doubleheader on Thursday, with wins against UIC and Bellarmine. Freshmen André Steinbach and Will Mayew both secured their first collegiate dual match victories.
Louisville has four players ranked inside the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) top-125 singles rankings, with sophomore Natan Rodrigues leading the way at No. 25, marking the first top 25 showing by a Cardinal since 2014-15. Graduate student Fabien Salle is ranked at No. 36, senior Etienne Donnet is ranked at No. 42 and senior Matthew Fung is ranked at No. 61.
The Cardinals also have two pairs ranked in the ITA top 60 doubles rankings. Salle and Rodrigues are ranked at No. 9 and David Mizrahi and Will Mayew are ranked at No. 58.
The Cardinals had a strong season last year, posting a 19-9 overall record and a 9-3 record in ACC play. The team made it to its first ACC semifinal since joining the conference in 2014-2015 and made the program’s 13th NCAA tournament appearance.
