The University of Louisville track and field teams put on a dazzling display at the first day of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, breaking two school records and earning numerous top-five finishes.
Sterling Warner-Savage tied his own school record in the indoor 60m dash with a time of 6.55, while freshman Nolan Macklin became the second-fastest 60m dash athlete in Louisville history with his time of 6.68. Synclair Savage reset the women’s long jump school record for the second consecutive week with a leap of 6.52m (21-4.75).
In the men’s heptathlon, Paul Kallenberg impressed with personal-best times and distances in several events, putting him in third place with 3,179 points after the first day of competition.
The Cardinals also dominated in the pole vault, with Aliyah Welter leading the way with a third-place finish in the women’s seeded pole vault and Carly Pujol and Lily Fleetwood tying for second and fifth place respectively in the women’s open pole vault. Ethan Alyea rounded out the day’s top-five finishers for Louisville with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw.
The Cardinals will be back in action tomorrow for the final day of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational, with events including the women’s shot put and men’s open pole vault, and the conclusion of the heptathlon.
