🏀 Morehead State MBB def Southern Indiana 84-80

The Morehead State Eagles soared to victory on Thursday night, defeating the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles 84-80 in a closely contested matchup. The win marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams, and it was a historic one for the Morehead State squad.

Leading the way for the Eagles were Mark Freeman and Jake Wolfe, both of whom scored over 20 points in the game. Freeman finished with 24 points, including a crucial jumper with 57 seconds left that put the Eagles ahead 79-71. Wolfe had a career-high 22 points, going 4-of-7 from three-point range and adding four assists and two steals. Alex Gross chipped in with 13 points and two blocks, and Drew Thelwell added 11 points.

Morehead State’s offense was in top form, with 18 assists on 26 made field goals. Branden Maughmer led the way with five assists, and the Eagles shot 53% for the game, including 56% in the second half. Morehead State also disrupted Southern Indiana’s shooting, recording five blocks and forcing 14 turnovers.

After falling behind 29-22 in the first half, Morehead State mounted a comeback, going on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 29. The Screaming Eagles regained the lead, but the Eagles fought back and took control in the second half, going on a 10-0 run to take a 67-54 lead with 7:36 remaining. Southern Indiana narrowed the margin, but Morehead State held on for the win.

The Eagles will look to continue their winning ways when they host Eastern Illinois on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
