The Murray State women’s basketball team will face the University of Northern Iowa Panthers on Friday in Cedar Falls, Iowa in a matchup of undefeated teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Racers come into the game with a 7-4 overall record and 2-0 in the MVC, having recently defeated Valparaiso 67-48. Katelyn Young recorded a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Bria Sanders-Woods led all scorers with 19 points.
This will be just the third time these two teams have faced off, with the Panthers winning the previous two meetings in 2004 and 2005. The Panthers currently have a 7-4 overall record and are 2-0 in the MVC, having recently defeated Bradley and Illinois State. Grace Boffeli, the reigning MVC Player of the Week, leads the Panthers in scoring with 16.8 points per game, while Maya McDermott follows at 14.1 points per game. Boffeli also leads UNI in rebounding with 8.8 rebounds per game, with Cynthia Woods following at 6.9 rebounds per game.
A win for the Racers on Friday would give the team its 650th all-time program victory. Murray State is currently one of just 18 schools in the country that have a higher 3-point field goal percentage than their opponent’s field goal percentage against Division I opponents. The Racers are also ranked fourth nationally in free throw percentage at 79.9 and 13th in 3-point percentage at 37.9%. Murray State is the only team in Division I to be ranked in the top 10 in fouls per game and free throw percentage.
