Murray State womens basketball player Katelyn Young has been named the MVC Player of the Week for the third time this season. Young is the only MVC player to win the award multiple times this season. In two games last week, Young averaged 30.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, shooting 61.0% from the field (25-41) and 3-for-8 from 3-point range.

Young’s standout performance came against Drake, where she scored a career-high 43 points, the third most points scored by a Racer in program history and the most scored by a Valley player since 2017. She set a season-high for the Racers with 28 points in the first half of the game and ended the first 20 minutes of the game by scoring 28 of her team’s 32 points. In this game, Young also tied the program record for most field goals scored in a game with 19, a feat only achieved by four other players in MVC history.

The Racers will return to action on Wednesday at the CFSB Center, where they will welcome rival Belmont. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will air nationally on ESPN+ as part of the MVC’s “The Valley on ESPN” package.
