On Thursday evening, the No. 1 ranked Thomas More University women’s basketball team defeated No. 3 Campbellsville University 78-66 in front of a packed crowd at the Connor Convocation Center. This marks the fifth ranked opponent that the Saints have defeated this season.
The first quarter saw the Saints take an early lead, with first-year player Rylee Turner and junior Rachel Martin contributing six and five points, respectively. The team also made six three-pointers in the quarter, giving them a 28-17 lead heading into the second.
Although the Saints maintained a steady lead for much of the second quarter, Campbellsville used a 7-0 run to close out the half, with the score 39-34 in favor of Thomas More.
The Tigers continued to close the gap in the third quarter, eventually tying the game at 49-49 with 3:23 left in the period. However, Thomas More finished the quarter with a three-point lead, 56-53.
The Saints pulled away in the final quarter, outscoring Campbellsville 22-13 and securing a 78-66 victory. Senior Emily Simon recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Martin had a career-high 13 points and Barth led the team with 14 points. The Saints also made 13 three-pointers in the game and shot 50.8% from the field.
With this win, Thomas More improves to 16-0 on the season and 10-0 in the Mid-South Conference. They will hit the road for a matchup against the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders on Saturday afternoon.
