The Knights struggled in the first half, shooting just 26% from the field and allowing Queens to take a 40-26 lead at halftime. However, Bellarmine mounted a comeback in the second half, finally taking the lead at the 6:06 mark and trading the lead back and forth with Queens until the end of the game.
Despite the loss, Bellarmine had strong performances from Garrett Tipton, who scored a career-high 27 points, and Peter Suder, who had 22 points. Curt Hopf also added 12 points and 6 rebounds for the Knights. Queens was led by AJ McKee, who finished with 20 points and 5 made 3-pointers, and Gavin Rains, who had 14 rebounds. The difference in the game came down to rebounding, as Queens had a 18-8 edge in second chance points and outrebounded Bellarmine overall.
Bellarmine will look to bounce back on Saturday as they hit the road to face Jacksonville State at 9 p.m. (8 p.m. CT). The Gamecocks are currently 7-9 (0-3 ASUN) after a 75-41 loss to Liberty.
