In a tough ACC matchup, the Louisville Cardinals fell short against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, losing 67-83 in a game that saw several Cardinals struggle to find their rhythm on the court.
One of the few bright spots for Louisville was freshman Kamari Lands, who came off the bench to score 15 points and grab 3 rebounds. Lands was able to provide some much-needed energy for the team, hitting three three-pointers and showing off his range and athleticism.
Senior guard Mike James was another solid performer for Louisville, scoring 14 points and dishing out 2 assists. James was efficient from the field, going 5-7 and 4-5 from the free-throw line, but he struggled to find his shot from beyond the arc, going 0-2 from three-point range.
El Ellis, the team’s leading scorer, had a tough night shooting the ball, going 7-16 from the field and 0-5 from three-point range. Ellis finished with 15 points, but he was not able to carry the team as he has in previous games. Jae’Lyn Withers also struggled, going 3-8 from the field and 1-3 from beyond the arc to finish with just 8 points.
The Cardinals’ defense was also not at its best, allowing Georgia Tech to shoot 52.8% from the field and 50% from three-point range. Louisville’s offense struggled to keep up, shooting just 44.3% from the field and 23.5% from beyond the arc.
The second half was particularly challenging for the Cardinals, as the team shot just 39.39% from the field and 28.57% from three-point range. They also struggled at the free-throw line, making just 7 of 9 attempts.
With the loss, Louisville drops to 4-25 on the season and 2-16 in conference play. The team will need to regroup and work on their offensive and defensive execution if they hope to bounce back in their next game. The Cardinals will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on February 27th, and they will need a stronger team effort if they hope to come away with a win.
