The Louisville Cardinals women’s basketball team secured an impressive 71-57 win over the Miami Hurricanes at the KFC Yum! Center on Thursday, improving their season record to 21-9, while Miami falls to 17-11.
Hailey Van Lith led the charge for the Cardinals with 25 points, including four three-pointers. Mykasa Robinson also had a strong performance, contributing 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. Liz Dixon and Nyla Harris also chipped in with 13 and 6 points, respectively.
The Cardinals’ defense was strong throughout the game, holding Miami to just 57 points. They were able to force 8 turnovers and block 2 shots. Their strong defense was complemented by their efficient offense, as they shot 45.2% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range.
The Cardinals also dominated the boards, out-rebounding Miami 37-25. Liz Dixon was a force on the glass, grabbing 10 rebounds, including 7 offensive rebounds. This helped the Cardinals to second-chance opportunities, and they were able to convert these into points.
Despite committing 13 turnovers and 8 personal fouls, the Cardinals were able to maintain control of the game, leading for most of the game and pulling away in the fourth quarter.
Haley Cavinder led the way for Miami, scoring 16 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Karla Erjavec also chipped in with 10 points and 6 assists. Lola Pendande and Kyla Oldacre also had solid games, scoring 9 and 4 points respectively.
The win is a significant one for the Cardinals as they head into the ACC Tournament next week. It will give them a confidence boost as they look to make a deep run in the tournament.
