The 2023 season got off to a rough start for the Murray State softball team, as they suffered losses to A&M Corpus Christi (1-0) and UTEP (3-0) on the opening day of the 2023 Wildcat Invitational in Abilene, Texas.
The first game was a showcase of strong pitching from both sides, with Murray State’s Jenna Veber and A&M Corpus Christi’s Primrose Aholelei both delivering standout performances. Veber allowed only four hits and struck out seven, while Aholelei surrendered just one hit and had 10 strikeouts. Despite Veber’s impressive performance, the Racers could not capitalize on the offensive end, with only Erin Lackey registering a hit for the team.
In game two against UTEP, the Racers managed three hits, but were still unable to score any runs. Gracie Osbron had a strong outing, going 2-for-3 at the plate, while Saxon Radcliffe added Murray State’s other hit.
The Racers will look to bounce back on Saturday as they face A&M Corpus Christi again at 10 a.m., followed by a matchup against the host Wildcats at 1 p.m.
Overall, it was a disappointing start to the 2023 season for Murray State, but they will have plenty of opportunities to turn things around as the season progresses.
