Legendary sports writer and TV personality Rick Bozich has added another chapter to his storied career, as it was announced that he will be inducted into the 2023 class of the Indiana Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame. A fixture of the Louisville sports scene, Bozich was born and raised in Gary, where he got his start delivering papers for The Post-Tribune. He went on to attend Indiana University in Bloomington and began his journalism career at papers in Anderson and Bloomington before joining the Louisville Courier-Journal in 1978.
Over the course of more than four decades, Bozich has established himself as one of the preeminent sports journalists in the country, covering major events such as NCAA Final Fours, Super Bowls, World Series, Summer Olympics, and NBA Finals. He has earned numerous accolades for his writing, including first-place awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors and induction into the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Hall of Fame in 2009. Bozich’s contributions to the field of sports journalism have been widely recognized, as he has served as a correspondent for Sports Illustrated for 20 years and contributed to top publications such as The New York Times, The Sporting News, Athlon Yearbooks, and FoxSports.com.
In 2012, Bozich made the move to television, appearing on camera for WDRB television and continuing to write for WDRB.com. Throughout his career, he has maintained a focus on the teams and athletes of his home state, covering the Indiana Hoosiers, University of Louisville Cardinals, and Kentucky Wildcats.
Bozich and the other inductees of the 2023 ISSA Hall of Fame class will be celebrated at the annual awards banquet on April 16 in Greenwood, Indiana. This recognition is a testament to Bozich’s lasting impact on sports journalism in Indiana and beyond.
