The University of Louisville women’s basketball team is gearing up for their first game in the 2023 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. As the No. 4 seed, they will be facing off against the No. 12 seed Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the quarterfinals. This will be the ninth appearance for the Cardinals in the ACC Tournament since joining the league in the 2014-15 season.
Louisville has a strong history in the tournament, with a 12-7 all-time record, three finals appearances, and one championship win in 2018. This year, they come into the tournament with two players who earned ACC awards for their impressive performances throughout the season. Hailey Van Lith was named to the First Team All-ACC, and Mykasa Robinson was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team for the third consecutive year.
Their opponents, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, come into the quarterfinal matchup with a 16-15 record and two tournament wins already under their belt. They defeated Virginia in the first round and Florida State in the second round to earn their spot in the quarterfinals. Wake Forest is known for their strong defense, allowing only 59.5 points per game, which is fourth in the ACC. They also lead the conference in three-point percentage defense, limiting opponents to just .265 shooting from beyond the arc.
This will be the 11th meeting between Louisville and Wake Forest, with Louisville holding a 9-1 all-time record against the Demon Deacons. Their last meeting on January 26, 2023, resulted in a 68-57 loss for the Cardinals. Morgan Jones led the team with 15 points, while Hailey Van Lith had five assists and Olivia Cochran scored 11 points.
