The University of Louisville women’s basketball team has been selected as a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play the No. 12 seed Drake Bulldogs in the Seattle 4 Regional. This will mark the 25th appearance for the Cardinals in the tournament, and the 14th appearance in the last 15 tournaments under head coach Jeff Walz.
The Cardinals have a strong track record in the NCAA Tournament, with a 41-24 all-time record. Since Walz’s arrival in 2007, the team has gone 37-13 and reached the Sweet 16 11 times, the Elite Eight seven times, the Final Four four times, and the championship game twice.
This is the second time the Cardinals have been seeded fifth in the NCAA Tournament, with the first time being in 2013. In that year, the Cardinals went on a remarkable run, defeating No. 1 Baylor, No. 2 Tennessee, and No. 2 California before falling to No. 1 Connecticut in the championship game.
In their first game of the tournament, the Cardinals will face the Drake Bulldogs, who finished with a record of 17-11 and 14-4 in conference play. The Bulldogs are led by junior guard Grace Berg, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year.
The game will be played on Saturday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be aired on ESPN2. Fans are eagerly anticipating the start of the tournament, and the Cardinals will be looking to make another deep run this year.
