Louisville Baseball’s Liggett Named ACC Pitcher of the Week

Carson Liggett, a sophomore at the University of Louisville, has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Pitcher of the Week after his impressive performance against Michigan on Sunday. The right-hander threw a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit in a 10-0 victory over the Wolverines.

Liggett retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced and only three Wolverines reached base during the game. His seven-inning, one-hit performance earned him his first weekly conference honor, making him the first Louisville pitcher to receive this accolade since Jared Poland in March 2020.

Sunday’s game marked the first complete game by a Louisville pitcher since Brendan McKay shut out Ole Miss in February 2016. Louisville’s starting pitchers have been impressive this season, allowing just one run over 20 innings of work against No. 12 Texas A&M, No. 10 TCU, and Michigan.

Liggett’s victory against Michigan improved his record to 3-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.53. He has been a valuable asset to the Cardinals’ pitching staff and has helped lead them to a successful season so far.

Louisville will continue their season with a nine-game home stand at Jim Patterson Stadium, starting with a game against Morehead State on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET. With Liggett’s recent recognition, the Cardinals are in a strong position as they continue their season.
