Murray State baseball secured a 12-6 victory over longtime rival Austin Peay on Tuesday evening at Raymond Hand Park in Clarksville, Tennessee. The Racers’ offense was powered by a series of home runs, accounting for nine of their 12 runs.
Logan Bland led MSU with two home runs and four RBIs, while Brennan McCullough and Drew Vogel also contributed with a two-run shot and a three-run blast, respectively. McCullough showcased an impressive performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 and adding a double to his home run.
The Racers’ two through five hitters were instrumental in the matchup, combining for eight RBIs. After trailing for most of the game, the Racers’ offense exploded in the ninth inning with Vogel and Bland’s blasts coming in the final frame. Dustin Mercer and Carson Garner further extended the lead, each hitting an RBI double to round out the runs for MSU at 12.
On the mound, the Racers primarily pitched by committee throughout the game. Allen Roulette stood out in relief, throwing 2.2 innings without allowing any runs and striking out two batters to secure the win. Matt Boynton, Nathan Holler, and Ben Krizen all pitched at least an inning, effectively limiting the Governors’ offense during the comeback.
Murray State will continue their road swing with a trip to Valparaiso this weekend, where they will compete in the Missouri Valley Conference play.
