Playing in his hometown and on his home field, Eastern Kentucky University shortstop Logan Thomason achieved his 200th career hit with a second-inning grand slam, helping the Colonels secure a 10-6 win over Morehead State University on Tuesday.
Thomason stepped up to bat in the bottom of the second inning with EKU leading 2-1, the bases loaded, and 199 career hits under his belt. The senior sent a 1-1 pitch soaring over the wall in left center, extending the Colonels’ lead to 6-1.
Morehead State (13-11) fought back in the top of the third, cutting their deficit to two with three runs. Nick Gooden contributed a crucial two-run single through the left side. However, that was as close as the Eagles would get.
In the bottom of the fourth, a combination of sacrifice flies and an error allowed the Colonels (9-15) to score three runs, further expanding their lead to 9-4.
Thomason finished the game 1-for-2 with two runs and five RBIs. Charlie Ludwick, who hit a first-inning two-run home run, had a 2-for-4 night with two runs and two RBIs.
For the Eagles, Gooden went 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
Eastern Kentucky will face Dayton on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
