Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) baseball team secured a 9-3 victory over the University of North Alabama on Sunday, completing a weekend ASUN Conference series sweep. EKU’s record now stands at 19-21 overall and 9-9 in ASUN play.
The Colonels began the series with a 12-2 win in eight innings in the first game, followed by a 5-3 victory in the second game. EKU’s offense started strong on Sunday, with Charlie Ludwick hitting a three-run home run in the first inning, putting the Colonels in the lead early.
In the third inning, Ludwick drew a walk and later scored on a ground ball, extending EKU’s lead to 4-0. The Colonels solidified their lead with three runs in the fifth inning, bringing the score to 7-0. EKU batters drew 32 walks during the three-game series, while their pitchers issued only 15.
Starting pitcher Michael Schuler (2-1) delivered an impressive performance, throwing five shutout innings, allowing four hits and one walk, and striking out a season-high eight batters. The senior right-hander has not allowed a run in his last 10 and one-third innings on the mound.
Miguel Larreal contributed with a 2-for-5 performance, scoring one run and driving in another. Will King went 2-for-5, scoring a run and adding two RBIs. Ludwick finished the game with three RBIs, two runs scored, and a 1-for-5 record at the plate with a walk.
North Alabama (9-29, 3-15 ASUN) saw Gehrig Frei hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning, while Kyle Machado had two hits in four at-bats, scored a run, and drove in one.
The Colonels will face off against Xavier on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
