Kentucky Track & Field Takes Home Long Jump Victories at Michael Johnson Invitational

Anthaya Charlton and Jordan Turner Secure Wins for the Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats Track & Field team had an impressive showing today, with both the men’s and women’s long jump competitions resulting in victories. The Michael Johnson Invitational, hosted by Baylor University at Hart Track & Field Stadium, saw Anthaya Charlton and Jordan Turner earn the only wins of the day for the Wildcats.

Charlton found success on her third attempt after failing her first two tries, hitting the winning mark of 20’11.75″/6.39 meters (4.8). Turner completed the sweep later in the day, securing a winning mark of 25’0.75″/7.80 meters (1.2) on his second jump. Turner later matched his mark on his fourth attempt, ultimately passing on his final two jumps.

Personal Bests Achieved

Kennedy Lightner placed third overall in the men’s 200 meters, ranking first among collegiate competitors with a personal best time of 20.33 (0.2). Lightner’s time has earned him a spot tied for 12th best in the nation and fourth on the UK all-time performers list.

Colleen Branch also achieved a personal best, placing 10th in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 23.68 (1.0).

Notable Performances

Other notable performances from the Wildcats include Payton Phillips, who took third in the pole vault with a vault of 13’2.25″/4.02 meters. Beck O’Daniel finished third in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 51.48.

In the men’s hammer throw, both Michael Browning and Dennis Ohene-Adu earned top 10 finishes. Browning placed fifth with a throw of 188’8″/57.51 meters, while Ohene-Adu finished ninth with a throw of 177’1″/53.98 meters.

Karimah Davis placed sixth in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 22.82 (1.8), while Brandon Miller placed ninth in the men’s 200 meters, clocking in at 20.78 (0.2).

Lastly, Josh Sobota had a season-best performance, placing sixth in the men’s discus throw with a distance of 179’2″/54.63 meters.

The Kentucky Wildcats’ impressive achievements at the Michael Johnson Invitational demonstrate their continued commitment to excellence in track and field, with athletes reaching new heights and setting personal bests.
