Louisville Softball Suffers 10-1 Loss to No. 1 Oklahoma in Miami Softball Invitational

The University of Louisville softball team suffered a 10-1 defeat at the hands of No. 1 Oklahoma in the Miami Softball Invitational on Saturday evening, held at the Miami Softball Stadium.

During the game, Sarah Gordon went 2-for-2 with a double, Daisy Hess delivered an RBI, and Korbe Otis earned a walk, extending her reached base streak to a school-record 33 games.

The Sooners (38-1) gained an early lead, using eight hits to score seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. Louisville responded with a run in the top of the second when Taylor Roby earned a leadoff walk, was replaced by pinch runner Vanessa Miller, who advanced to third on Sarah Gordon’s double, and crossed the plate on a groundout by Daisy Hess. This run marked the first allowed by the Sooners in their last four games, dating back to a 10-2 win over No. 9/8 Texas on April 2.

Oklahoma added three more runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 10-1. The Cardinals had a chance to score in the fourth inning when Hannah File led off with a hit and Gordon delivered her second hit of the game, putting two runners on base with one out. However, Oklahoma reliever Kierston Deal struck out two consecutive batters to end the inning.

The Louisville softball team (26-14) will return to action on Sunday, hosting Oakland at Ulmer Stadium for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
