The University of Louisville softball team fell 10-5 to Indiana in a midweek contest on Tuesday at Andy Mohr Field. Despite multiple rallies, the Cardinals (25-13) were unable to overcome Indiana’s early lead. They will return to action on Friday when they host Miami (Ohio) at Ulmer Stadium at 5 p.m.
Indiana Secures Early Lead
In the game, Indiana went ahead early and maintained its lead throughout the match. Hannah File led the Cardinals’ offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and scoring a pair of runs. Korbe Otis extended her reached-base streak to 31 games with her ACC-leading seventh home run of the season. Alyssa Zabala (12-6) took the loss, giving up six earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings.
Indiana Scores Early, Cardinals Rally
The Hoosiers (31-11) capitalized on two hits and a walk in the bottom of the first inning to score three runs. Louisville countered in the next frame with Hannah File’s solo home run, but Indiana extended its lead to 6-1 with three more runs in the second.
Louisville continued to chip away at the lead, scoring three runs in the fourth inning. File connected on her second hit of the game, and Daisy Hess earned her second walk. Makayla Hurst’s pinch-hit single loaded the bases, and a wild pitch sent File home. Hess scored on Madison “Pickle” Winkler’s groundout, cutting the lead to two runs.
Indiana Responds, Secures Win
The Hoosiers regained their momentum in the fourth inning, scoring two more runs with a pair of RBI hits to make the score 8-4. Louisville battled back in the fifth inning, scoring another run to make it 8-5. However, Indiana secured the victory by scoring one run in both the fifth and sixth innings, resulting in a final score of 10-5.
Brianna Copeland (15-0) earned the win for Indiana, holding the Cardinals scoreless on one hit and striking out four in 2.0 innings of relief. Sarah Stone led the Hoosiers offensively, going 2-for-4 with a run and five RBIs.
Notable Achievements
- Korbe Otis has now reached base safely via hit or walk in the last 31 games, tying for second on Louisville’s all-time list. She needs one more to move into a tie for first (32) with Maryssa Becker (2015).
- Otis extended her ACC-leading triple tally to seven.
