In a closely contested match, Murray State baseball suffered a 7-6 defeat against UT Martin on Wednesday afternoon in Martin, Tennessee. Although the Racers picked up 14 hits, it was not enough to secure a victory over the Skyhawks. Six Murray State players recorded multihit performances, with Ethan Krizen leading the charge with three hits.
Notable Performances
Dustin Mercer continued his impressive form, registering his fifth consecutive multihit game with two base hits and a run scored. This effort raised his team-high batting average to .350 for the season. Brennan McCullough contributed two hits and an RBI, while leadoff hitter Logan Bland also had a two-hit day.
Cade Sammons and Seth Gardner each collected a pair of hits during the game, with Gardner notching an RBI double. Riley Hawthorne emerged as the top RBI contributor, hitting a two-RBI double in the eighth inning.
On the pitching side, Nathan Holler excelled in relief, throwing two scoreless frames and striking out two batters. Alex Elsing also had a strong performance, pitching a scoreless inning without allowing any baserunners and striking out two opponents.
Looking Ahead
Despite the loss, the Racers will look to bounce back this weekend when they return to Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) action. They will host Evansville at Johnny Reagan Field for Alumni Weekend at the ballpark. The team will seek to harness the energy from their strong individual performances against UT Martin and channel it into securing a victory in their upcoming games.
