Murray State track and field’s Meghan Fletcher emerged as the star of the home dual meet against Austin Peay on Friday. Fletcher’s outstanding performance in the high jump not only secured her a win but also broke the school’s 42-year-old record with a 1.79m jump. The previous record of 1.78m was set by Alison Manley back in 1981.
Currently, Fletcher ranks 16th in the nation and holds the top position in both the Southeast Region and Missouri Valley Conference. The Racers used this dual meet as a chance to compete on home turf.
Head coach Adam Kiesler praised the team’s performance, saying, “We had a few athletes run in events for the first time this year, and they took advantage of the home venue and great weather.” He continued, “Fletch breaking the school record in the high jump was the highlight, but other people did an amazing job.”
Murray State will now shift their focus to their next challenge, as they head back on the road to compete against Eastern Kentucky next week. With Fletcher’s record-breaking performance boosting the team’s morale, the Racers will be looking to build on their momentum and achieve even greater success in the upcoming meets.
