Murray State women’s basketball program has scored a significant addition to their roster with the signing of Ava Learn, a talented 6-1 guard/forward from Pleasant Valley, New York. Head coach Rechelle Turner announced the exciting news on Thursday morning, expressing her enthusiasm for the impact Learn will have on the team.
Ava Learn initially gained recognition as the 153rd-best prospect in the nation while playing for Our Lady of the Lourdes in Pleasant Valley, New York, in the 2021 class. Throughout her prep career, Learn’s contributions on the court helped the Warriors achieve an impressive 66-26 record. During the 2019-20 season, she demonstrated her prowess by averaging 19.4 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocked shots per game.
After two seasons with the Purdue Boilermakers, a Big Ten team, Learn will now bring her skills and experience to Murray State. As a Boilermaker, she exhibited remarkable shooting accuracy, with nearly 59 percent from the field and over 80 percent from the free-throw line. During her tenure at Purdue, Learn scored 195 points and secured 116 rebounds.
Head Coach Rechelle Turner shared her excitement about Learn’s signing, stating, “Ava will be a tremendous two-way addition to our frontcourt, capable of impacting the game on offense and defense. She possesses the versatility and intelligence to play multiple positions, and she brings a tenacious approach to rebounding to our lineup.” Turner also highlighted Learn’s experience in the Big Ten, which has prepared her for the challenges of the Missouri Valley schedule.
With the addition of Ava Learn to the Murray State Racers’ roster, the team looks forward to a promising season. Learn’s versatility, intelligence, and experience will undoubtedly contribute to the Racers’ continued success on the court.
