The ninth-ranked University of Louisville baseball team faced a disappointing 12-7 loss against Lipscomb on Tuesday night at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals, now with a 21-7 record, allowed a season-high 12 runs in the defeat.
Louisville started strong, scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a sacrifice fly from JT Benson and a run-scoring single from Matt Klein. However, Lipscomb (12-16) soon began to close the gap, plating a run in the second inning. In response, Logan Beard hit a solo home run for the Cardinals in the bottom half of the frame.
Lipscomb took the lead for the first time in the game with back-to-back home runs in the third inning, including a three-run shot. Louisville managed to tie the game with two more runs in the bottom of the third, but the Bisons pushed ahead with five more runs in the fifth inning, maintaining their lead for the rest of the match.
Despite valiant efforts by Beard and Gavin Kilen, who drove in single runs in the fifth inning, the Cardinals were unable to score in the remaining four innings. Beard had an impressive performance, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
Looking ahead, Louisville will return to conference play on Thursday night, kicking off a three-game series against the seventh-ranked Boston College. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
