University of Louisville quarterback Jack Plummer has been designated a preseason candidate for the esteemed Maxwell Award, an annual accolade recognizing the most outstanding player in college football. The announcement came today from the Maxwell Football Club, spotlighting the exceptional talent that Plummer brings to the field.
Plummer’s football journey saw him spend a season at the University of California, Berkeley (Cal), and four years at Purdue, under the tutelage of current UofL head coach Jeff Brohm. His most recent season as a starter at Cal in 2022 witnessed Plummer passing for 3,095 yards and 21 touchdowns. His skills earned him the third rank in the Pac-12 and tied him for the 16th position nationally in completions per game (23.50). Plummer completed at least 20 passes in 10 of the 12 games, with a notable streak in the last eight. A native of Gilbert, Arizona, he achieved the feat of throwing for three or more touchdowns five times and passing for at least one touchdown in 10 of 12 games.
During his three-season stint at Purdue, Plummer played in 21 games with 13 starts. He demonstrated impressive accuracy, completing 319 of 492 passes, a striking rate of 64.8%. His career at Purdue saw him accumulate 3,405 yards with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, recording a commendable quarterback rating of 136.35. In his inaugural season with the Boilermakers in 2019, Plummer threw for 1,603 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Plummer is now preparing to begin his first training camp at Louisville on Tuesday, August 1, at the Howard Schnellenberger Football Complex.
The crowning of the 2023 Maxwell Award winner will take place on December 7, during ESPN’s live telecast of The Home Depot College Football Awards.
