University of Louisville track and field star Brion Stephens has been selected to compete for Team USA at the upcoming Pan American U20 Championships in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The rising sophomore will showcase his talent in the men’s high jump, an event scheduled for Sunday, August 6.

Stephens, who hails from Indianapolis, Indiana, secured his place on the national team with an impressive performance at the USATF U20 Championships on July 8 in Eugene, Oregon. His clearance of 2.15m (7-0.5) not only earned him the USATF U20 national title in the high jump but also cemented his reputation as one of the most promising athletes in his age group.

During his time with the Cardinals, Stephens has already accumulated a noteworthy list of achievements. In his freshman year, he captured two ACC silver medals in the men’s high jump at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships. He also established both indoor and outdoor freshman records in the high jump, with an outdoor personal-best clearance of 2.22m (7-3.25).

“Brion’s dedication and hard work have paid off, and we are thrilled to see him represent both the University of Louisville and the United States on this significant stage,” said the Cardinals’ coach, reflecting on Stephens’s selection. “His growth and achievements as a freshman set an example for aspiring athletes, and we are confident that he will continue to excel.”

Stephens’s participation in the Pan American U20 Championships adds to the growing reputation of the University of Louisville’s track and field program, which has consistently nurtured and produced athletes capable of competing at national and international levels.

With expectations high and the stage set for an enthralling competition, all eyes will be on Stephens as he dons the Team USA colors and takes his place among some of the best young athletes in the region. His participation in the event serves as an exciting preview of what may lie ahead for this promising athlete.
