Murray State Softball Welcomes New Assistant Coach Bayleigh Masterson

Murray State softball head coach, Kara Amundson, announced the latest addition to the Racers’ coaching staff: Bayleigh Masterson. She will serve as an assistant coach, bringing both her experiences as a standout player and an impactful coach to the team.

Before joining the Racers, Masterson had a significant impact as a graduate assistant coach at Hood College starting in 2021. In her first year, she helped guide the Blazers to their best season record since 2017, showcasing her potential in contributing to a team’s success.

During her time at Hood College, Masterson’s coaching prowess was evident as she guided seven Middle Atlantic Conference All-Conference honorees, an NFCA All-Region honoree, and an NCAA Woman of the Year finalist. These achievements under her guidance speak volumes about her potential contribution to the Racers.

“We are excited about Bayleigh joining our staff. She is a young and eager coach that will be able to contribute with both offensive and defensive skills,” said Amundson. “As a Louisville resident, we are looking forward to her additional Kentucky connections on the recruiting trail!”

Before her coaching career, Masterson, a native of Louisville, Ky., was a standout infielder at Berry College. As a freshman, she made a notable contribution with nine home runs, aiding the Vikings’ NCAA Super Regionals appearance in 2018. She ended her playing career with an impressive .386 batting average.

Masterson’s debut as a player was equally impactful as her coaching career. She was named SAA Newcomer of the Year in 2018, a testament to her immediate impact on the field. Throughout her career, Masterson earned a place on the 2019 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year watch list, received SAA First Team All-Conference recognition, garnered three All-SAA First Team honors, and six SAA Player of the Week accolades.

Masterson holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management from Berry College and a Master of Business and Administration from Hood College. With her academic qualifications and rich experience in both playing and coaching, Murray State’s softball team looks set to benefit from Masterson’s expertise in the coming seasons.
