Nick Bowes has been named the University of Louisville’s Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Financial Officer, UofL Director of Athletics Josh Heird announced Friday. The appointment, which was approved last week by the UofL Athletics Association Board of Directors, adds Bowes to the university’s executive team, playing a key role in its athletic department.
As the Deputy Athletic Director and CFO, Bowes will take on a broad range of responsibilities. These include serving as the lead fiscal officer for the athletic department, overseeing all finance and business activities, and acting as a liaison to the university, the ULAA board, and the Board of Trustees. Additionally, Bowes will provide leadership oversight to equipment operations, capital projects, facilities, and the UofL Golf Club.
Apart from his fiscal responsibilities, Bowes will also serve as the sport administrator for football, joining Heird’s executive team and senior staff.
Josh Heird welcomed Bowes to his new role, stating, “He’s a highly skilled financial officer and administrator with significant experience in budgets, contracts, capital projects, sport administration and many other areas. He is also a proven leader, and his talents and counsel will be critical to our financial success now and into the future.”
Bowes expressed his eagerness for his new position, thanking Heird for the opportunity and looking forward to contributing to the success of Louisville athletics.
Prior to his appointment at Louisville, Bowes worked as the Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director and Chief Operating Officer at the University of Southern California (USC). During his time at USC, Bowes managed the annual facilities, operations, and capital project budgets and implemented a long-term capital investment strategy. He also served as the athletics liaison to numerous facility/city/event entities and played a significant role in negotiations on several contracts, including those for head coaches, apparel, and vendors.
Before joining USC, Bowes was part of the University of Cincinnati’s staff since 2009, advancing to the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Affairs/CFO. His key achievements there included overseeing a $95 million renovation of the Fifth Third Arena and the development of a $4 million football locker and team room renovation.
A native of Worthington, Ohio, Bowes earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio State in 2008 and a master’s in business administration from Cincinnati in 2016.
