Kentucky’s senior quarterback Devin Leary found his NFL home as he was selected in the sixth round by the Baltimore Ravens, marking the 218th overall pick in the 2024 National Football League Draft. The announcement came on Saturday in Detroit, concluding a journey that began in Sicklerville, New Jersey.
Leary’s path to Kentucky took shape after an impressive tenure at NC State, where he amassed significant achievements over four seasons. Despite facing adversity due to injury, Leary showcased his resilience and talent, leaving a lasting impact on both the Wolfpack and now the Wildcats.
During his time at NC State, Leary boasted a 17-9 record as a starter, leaving the program ranked sixth in career passing yards (6,807) and fourth in career completion percentage (.602). His tenure with the Wolfpack included a standout performance in 2022, where he led the team to a strong start with a 5-1 record and impressive individual statistics before a right pectoralis major injury interrupted his season.
After undergoing surgery and a period of rehabilitation, Leary made a triumphant return to the field with Kentucky in 2023. His leadership guided the Wildcats to their eighth consecutive bowl bid, showcasing his prowess with 2,746 passing yards and 25 touchdowns, solidifying his place in Wildcat history.
Off the field, Leary demonstrated dedication to academics, graduating from NC State with a degree in sport management in December of 2022.
Leary’s selection adds to the list of Wildcats making their mark in the 2024 NFL Draft, joining the likes of cornerback Andru Phillips (third round, Giants), linebacker Trevin Wallace (third round, Panthers), and running back Ray Davis (fourth round, Bills).
The 2024 NFL Draft, presented by Bud Light, unfolded over three days in Detroit’s downtown Campus Martius Park and Hart Plaza, showcasing the next generation of football talent. Leary’s journey from Sicklerville to Kentucky and now to the Ravens represents the culmination of hard work, determination, and a relentless pursuit of excellence.
