Thomas More University President Joseph L. Chillo, LP.D., and Vice President/Director of Athletics Terry Connor proudly announce the appointment of Brian Neal as the head coach of the women’s basketball team at Thomas More University.
“We are delighted to welcome Coach Neal back to Thomas More University,” Chillo expressed. “His remarkable coaching career and dedication to the student-athlete experience make him the perfect fit as we continue our journey in the NCAA DII and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.”
Connor echoed the sentiment, stating, “Coach Brian Neal brings a wealth of collegiate coaching experience to Thomas More. We have full confidence in his ability to lead our program as we transition to Division II. Welcome back to Thomas More University, Coach Neal.”
Neal returns to Thomas More following a successful season as head coach at Southeastern University, where he guided the Fire to a 22-8 overall record, clinching the SUN regular season title and tournament championship, and securing an NAIA National Tournament berth.
His previous tenure at Thomas More, serving as an assistant coach under Jeff Hans, saw the team reach the 2023 NAIA National Championship game, further highlighting his coaching prowess.
“Thomas More holds a special place in my heart, and I am honored to return to an institution with such a rich academic and athletic legacy,” Neal expressed. “I extend my gratitude to President Chillo and Vice President/Director of Athletics Terry Connor for their unwavering support. I eagerly anticipate leading the Thomas More women’s basketball program and nurturing the development of our student-athletes both on and off the court.”
With an extensive coaching background, including stints at Butler University, Eastern Illinois, and Xavier University, Neal brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
During his initial seven-year tenure at Thomas More (2004-2011), Neal achieved remarkable success, boasting an impressive overall record of 171-31 (.847). His leadership garnered numerous accolades, including PAC Coach of the Year titles and NCAA DIII National Tournament appearances.
Before joining Thomas More, Neal contributed to the coaching staff at Northern Kentucky University, aiding the Norse in capturing the NCAA DII National Championship in 2020.
A graduate of NKU with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and English, Neal and his wife Amy reside in Northern Kentucky with their four children, Allison, Madison, Emma, and Maxwell.
