Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team is set to bolster its lineup with the addition of Cyril Martynov, a towering 7-foot center, starting from the 2024-25 season. Head coach A.W. Martynov’s Background and Attributes
Martynov brings a blend of size and experience to the Colonels’ roster, having showcased his talents at prominent basketball programs like Georgia Tech and Eastern Michigan. Hailing from Barrie, Ontario, Martynov emerged as a promising prospect during his time at the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, earning a 3-star rating by recruiting platforms such as 247Sports and On3.
Coach Hamilton expressed confidence in Martynov’s abilities, emphasizing his prowess as a formidable post defender and his potential to make significant offensive contributions. On-Court Performance
During the 2023-24 season at Eastern Michigan, Martynov showcased his versatility by featuring in 30 games, including eight starts. He displayed efficiency in shooting, boasting a commendable 51 percent accuracy from the field. Notable highlights from his season include registering a season-high eight points on multiple occasions and securing a season-best seven rebounds against Hampton.
Martynov’s collegiate journey began at Georgia Tech, where he gained valuable experience during his freshman year. Despite limited playing time, he made valuable contributions, scoring his first collegiate points and grabbing rebounds in crucial moments.
International Experience and High School Career
Martynov’s talents have not gone unnoticed on the international stage, as he had the honor of representing Canada at the 2023 FIBA U19 World Cup in Hungary. His basketball journey traces back to his high school days, where he excelled both on the court and in the classroom at Innisdale Secondary School before concluding his prep career at the Lawrenceville School.
