Head coach Kenny Brooks announced Thursday that the University of Kentucky women’s basketball program has secured the commitment of veteran 6-1 guard Jordan Obi, a graduate transfer from Penn, for the 2024-25 season.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jordan to our BBN family,” said Brooks. “Her extensive experience and basketball prowess will undoubtedly enhance our team in numerous ways. As a versatile player, she brings leadership qualities that will make an immediate impact.”
Jordan Obi, hailing from Hartford, Connecticut, showcased her talents over the past four seasons at Penn (2021-24). Across 83 games, she boasted impressive averages of 13.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 0.9 steals per game.
Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, Obi excelled during her tenure at Penn, accumulating 1,142 points, 88 3-pointers, 631 rebounds, 165 assists, 85 blocks, and 72 steals over three active seasons. Notably, she became the 25th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points, achieving this milestone in just 74 games, making her the seventh-fastest to do so.
Obi’s senior season proved to be her most remarkable yet, earning her a spot on the Ivy League’s first team for the first time in her collegiate career. During the 2023-24 campaign, she contributed significantly with averages of 14.7 points and a team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game, complemented by 65 assists and a team-high 38 blocks. Her impressive shooting percentages, including 43.3% from the field, 38.6% from beyond the arc, and 82.7% from the free-throw line, underscore her versatility and efficiency on the court.
Throughout the season, Obi consistently delivered standout performances, recording double-digit scoring in 22 of her 28 games, including six double-doubles. A standout moment came in a victory against Merrimack on Dec. 8, where she amassed a career-high 30 points alongside 13 rebounds, showcasing her dominance in all facets of the game.
As a two-time All-Ivy Second Team selection in her sophomore and junior years, Obi maintained stellar averages of 13.3 points and 7.5 rebounds, further solidifying her reputation as a formidable force in collegiate basketball.
