The University of Louisville track & field teams made a strong showing on the first day of the NCAA East Regionals on Wednesday, securing two spots at the upcoming NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Jake Burkey and Ian Kibiwot Advance to Nationals
Jake Burkey:
- Event: Men’s Long Jump
- Result: 9th Place
- Performance: Matched personal best with a mark of 7.58m (24-10.5) on his second attempt.
- Note: This is Burkey’s second consecutive berth to the outdoor national championships.
Ian Kibiwot:
- Event: Men’s 10,000 Meters
- Result: 4th Place
- Performance: Finished with a time of 29:11.43.
- Note: This marks Kibiwot’s first qualification for the national championships and he is the first Louisville male to qualify in this event since 2015.
Other Louisville Performances
Men’s Long Jump:
- Jeremiah Willis: Narrowly missed qualifying, finishing 14th with a mark of 7.48m (24-6.5).
- Roman Kuleshov: Placed 35th with a mark of 7.06m (23-2), and will compete in the men’s triple jump on Friday.
- Trae Burns: Finished 48th with a leap of 6.67m (21-10.75).
Men’s Hammer Throw:
- Erik Fertig: Concluded his collegiate career with a final mark of 60.53m (198-7), placing 30th in his third appearance at the regional meet.
