Tait Nunnally hit a 2-run homer, and Justin Carinci racked up four hits, including his first home run of the season, leading Eastern Kentucky University to a 14-5 victory over Morehead State University on Tuesday.
Early Momentum for the Colonels
The Colonels wasted no time getting on the board. Carinci opened the game with a double to right center, advanced to third on a fly out, and scored on a Conner Davis sacrifice fly. After Max Williams singled through the left side, freshman outfielder Nunnally blasted his 11th home run of the season over the right field wall, giving EKU a 3-0 lead.
Building the Lead
EKU extended their lead in the second inning. With the bases loaded and no outs, DJ Sullivan scored when Carinci was hit by a pitch. Miguel Larreal’s RBI single to center made it 5-0, and Davis drove in two more with a single to right field.
Morehead State’s Response
The Eagles (30-22) narrowed the gap in the third inning. After a bad bounce on a ground ball loaded the bases with two outs, Nick Gooden hit a 2-run single to center. Hunter Thomas added another run with an infield single, reducing the deficit to 7-3.
Colonels’ Continued Dominance
The Colonels (19-34) answered back in the fourth with four more runs. Carinci’s 2-run single to left highlighted the inning, making it 11-3. Carinci later hit his first home run of the season in the ninth. Nunnally’s double down the right field line added two more runs, bringing the final score to 14-5.
