WKU Athletics is thrilled to announce the return of Big Red’s Summer Reading Challenge for its second year, offering an exciting opportunity for eligible children in the Bowling Green and surrounding communities to earn free tickets to a 2024 WKU Football game.
Engaging Kids in Grades 1-8
Big Red’s Summer Reading Challenge targets children in grades 1-8 attending schools in the Bowling Green area. This year, the program extends its invitation to all KSBA Third Region Schools, fostering a strong partnership between WKU Athletics and schools in the local community. The initiative aims to encourage students to maintain their reading habits during the summer break.
How It Works
To participate, eligible students must meet the reading requirements for their grade level and complete the designated reading journal. The journal can be submitted online, in-person at the WKU Ticket Office, or directly to the student’s classroom during the first week of school (Aug. 12-16). Submissions are accepted from July 1 to Aug. 16. Students who successfully complete the challenge will receive two complimentary tickets to any 2024 WKU Football home game.
Redemption Process
Upon completing the challenge and submitting the journal, students and their families have two redemption options. They can either collect their tickets on the day of their chosen game from Will Call, located at Gate 3 and Gate 4 at Houchens-Smith Stadium, or pick them up in person at the WKU Ticket Office.
Additional Information
There is no limit to the number of children per household who can participate in the challenge, although only one journal submission is allowed per child. Families seeking to purchase additional tickets at a discounted rate of $10 per ticket may do so if their child has submitted a journal. Children aged two and under can attend football games at Houchens-Smith Stadium for free.
