Charity Hufnagel Soars to First USATF Title in High Jump

Senior Charity Hufnagel has etched her name in the annals of U.S. track and field history. The Indiana native captured her first USATF title on Monday night, winning the high jump with a personal best clearance of 6’4.25” (1.94 meters). Hufnagel’s victory was nothing short of spectacular as she cleared five consecutive heights, including her new personal best, without a single miss.

Following her title-winning jump, Hufnagel attempted to clear the Olympic standard of 6’5.50” (1.97 meters), which would have secured her a spot on Team USA for the Paris Olympics. Despite her best efforts, she missed all three attempts and will need to achieve the standard at another meet before June 30th to qualify for Team USA or rely on the World Athletics rankings.

In other action, alumni Daniel Roberts (Class of 2019) competed in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 13.14 seconds. Roberts’ performance earned him an automatic qualifier spot, allowing him to advance to Thursday’s semifinals.

Another 2019 alum, Micaela Hazlewood-Lewis, delivered a strong showing in the women’s discus throw qualifier. She placed sixth with a season-best mark of 195’0” (59.44 meters), securing her spot in Thursday’s final.

The athletes will take a well-deserved two-day break before resuming competition on Thursday at 7:55 p.m. ET, with Micaela Hazlewood-Lewis set to compete in the women’s discus throw final.
