Five Louisville Men’s Tennis Players Named to All-ACC Academic Team

The University of Louisville men’s tennis team placed five student-athletes on the All-ACC Academic team, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Etienne Donnet, Natan Rodrigues, Will Mayew, Miguel Avendaño, and Piet Steveker earned the accolade for the Cardinals.

To be selected, student-athletes had to maintain a career 3.0 GPA, achieve a 3.0 GPA in their most recent semester, and participate in at least 50% of their team’s contests.

This marks the third consecutive season Donnet has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team. The sport administration major recently completed one of the best doubles seasons in Louisville history alongside fellow honoree Rodrigues, who earns the award for the second straight season.

The duo advanced to the NCAA Doubles Championship Semifinals in late May and finished the season ranked No. 4 in the ITA Doubles Rankings, the best ranking ever for a pair of Cardinals. Both were also named ITA All-Americans for their finish in the rankings and in the championship.

This is the first time Mayew has earned the All-ACC Academic distinction. He began the spring with an impressive 11-1 singles record through March 3, climbed as high as No. 56 in the ITA singles rankings in the fall, and served as a first-year captain for the Cardinals as a sophomore.

Avendaño and Steveker were two of six freshmen on the roster for the Cardinals this spring. Avendaño finished the spring with a 7-3 record in singles and a 12-10 record in doubles, winning six of his final 10 singles matches. Steveker boasted a 7-6 singles mark in the spring and contributed to three doubles point-clinching wins with victories over Xavier, Butler, and Eastern Kentucky.

The recognition of these student-athletes underscores their dedication and hard work both on and off the court, highlighting Louisville’s commitment to academic excellence in athletics.
