Kentucky T&F Wrap Up NCAA Outdoor Championships with Strong Individual Performances

The Kentucky track and field program capped off their run at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships with a day of mixed results at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Junior Luke Brown provided a bright spot for the men’s team, securing a fifth-place finish in the triple jump on the final day of competition. Brown’s best attempt landed at 53 feet, 11.25 inches (16.44 meters) on his third try, earning him four valuable points. This contribution, combined with the team’s previous points, brought their final total to 14, placing them in a three-way tie for 20th place overall.

Senior Charity Hufnagel shouldered the load for the women’s team in the heptathlon. Despite a challenging start with a 20th place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, Hufnagel bounced back in spectacular fashion. Competing in her signature event, the high jump, she soared over the bar at a season-best height of 6 feet, 1.50 inches (1.87 meters), claiming first place and a significant points boost. This feat also broke the UKTF outdoor school record for the second time this year.

Hufnagel’s momentum continued in the shot put, where she launched a personal best throw of 44 feet, 0.75 inches (13.43 meters), securing eighth place and additional points. The 200-meter dash proved slightly less successful, with Hufnagel crossing the finish line in 19th place with a time of 25.15 seconds.

Despite the slight setback, Hufnagel still sits comfortably in fifth place overall in the heptathlon with a total score of 3,655 points. She has one more event to go: her national title-defending performance in the high jump tomorrow at 5:00 pm ET.
